Homegarden for Household Food Security

In the midst of pandemic, home gardening has become an alternative activity. Mrs. Suji, residing in Rejowinangun Village, Blitar Regency, East Java, has turned her backyard into a vegetable garden. She figures that her garden helps her to save money and feed her family. With the guidance from our Technical Field Officer, Mrs. Suji got training on how to maximize small land areas. She learned to use polybags and re-use household waste. Moreover, home gardening only needs organic fertilizer, which is easy to get from neighbors who raise livestock. Because of a relatively short harvest time and easy to maintain, Mrs. Suji hopes that the members of the farmer groups will also follow her new hobby.
